Carpet Care Advice: Cleaning Candle Wax on Your Carpet

A candle can do a whole lot to improve the mood and atmosphere of any room. Whether you are planning a candle lit dinner or you’re using aromatherapy, a candle can instantly change the entire room for the better. One drawback of using candles though is the candle wax. Not only is it hot and can sting if you spill it on your hand, it can also become a cause for concern if you accidentally spill it on your carpet fibers. The spilled candle wax can cause you a big headache as it can clump together the carpet fibers and ruin its look and feel.

Nobody wants to have this problem on their shoulders but unfortunately this is a pretty common predicament for homeowners. If ever you are faced with this situation, you don’t need to panic and resort to cutting the carpet fibers. All you need to do is follow the tips below to get your carpet clean and back to the way it was before.

1. It’s important for you to not clean up the candle wax spill while it is still fresh. The fresh wax can be tricky to clean if you attempt to remove it because it spreads and causes the problem to become worse. It would be wise to wait for the candle wax to harden first before starting the removal procedure.
2. Once it has hardened, use a knife to chip away slowly at the candle wax on the carpet. This will help remove big chunks of the dried candle wax on the carpet. Just be careful not to accidentally cut off some of the carpet fibers in the process though. Then, use a shop vac to remove all the loose candle particles on your carpet. You will not get all of the candle wax through this process but at least you will be decreasing the amount of it you would need to remove from your carpet.
3. To remove the remaining candle wax on the carpet, you’ll need to use a brown paper bag which plays a very important role in the process. Get a brown paper bag and spread it over the candle wax. Then, get a steam iron and set it to “warm”. Then, run it over the paper bag repeatedly. The candle wax will melt and will transfer onto the brown paper bag, thus leaving your carpet clean and spotless once again.
4. Rinse the carpet with clean water to ensure all of the loose candle particles are remove. Finish the process by drying it up with some clean rags and you’re done.

Candle wax can be quite a challenge to clean up on your carpet. Cleaning this type of stain may be difficult but by following the tips above you’ll be able to effectively and easily get rid of the problem in no time.
